And Counting.

6 weeks or 43 days until we leave our comfy home in Melbourne: This also means I have 6 weeks to finish my thesis project and hand in the best translation I've ever done. Same goes for Will, except by the end of 6 weeks he'll be an expert about what we're meant to be doing in El Salvador--he's doing his thesis on capacity building in El Salvaor.

7 weeks or 52 days until we leaving for staging in Washington DC: I'm looking forwards to staging. We won't know anyone and neither does anyone else, so everyone is anxious to get to know eachother and become PC "besties". Our group is probably quite small, I'm doubting whether there will be another couple.
7.5 weeks or 55 days until we become official residents of El Salvador:
Pupusas, frijoles y arroz. Yum. And once again, we move on to start a new life. A new house. New friends. New job. New life. We get to live billingual lives again. And gain 50 kilos eating pupusas. Heaps to look forwards to.

I'm visiting Australia in 20 days. Any tips for Surfer's Paradise, Cairns or Sydney?

Ooooh, travel advice!

Hmm, let's see. I spent 3 days in December in Surfer's Paradise and its really ritzy--like Miami beach, except more affordable. Lots of high rises and the beach has nice white sand. It's what you'd exect of a beach town. Try taking a day trip to one of the beaches in the next town over. It was a great relaxing place during the day and great place for drinks at night. Try the pub at the end of the main street on the 2nd floor. If you're a fan of icecream, treat yourself to one of the icecreams in a waffle cone. You'll smell the delicious smell of waffles and see them making them as you walk by on the main strip.

I'm going to Cairns on Sunday, so I don't have any advice about that yet..

I went to Sydney in December as well with my parents and you really don't need to spend more than 3 days max in the city. Two full days was enough for us. Take one of the harbour cruise tours that has stops at differents points around the harbour area--that was the best part of my time there. Go to the top of the Sydney Tower--you get a great view of the city. There is the Toronga Zoo, which is a stop on the harbour cruises and it's on a slope and overlooks the harbour. Go to Paddy's Market near Chinatown--its a huge indoor market with everything you could imagine inside. Also, they have a monorail in the city--I'm divided on whether its worth it. The city is very walkable and unless you feel it necesarry to see parts of the city from above, stick to walking or taking the bus. Bondi beach is meant to be a good day trip--we didn't make it out there for one reason or another though.
Walk through the Royal Botanical Gardens in the CBD (central business district) and check out the cool plants and trees and heaps of fruit bats hanging out in the trees.

Have fun!
